PROGRAM OBJECTIVES: To lead middle or high school students through a variety of cultures using the art produced by the area's artists. To provide the school with permanent reproductions of famous works of art for its walls and study guides for future classroom "museum" visits. Students do the bulk of the work with the residency artist acting as painting instructor and studio head.

CURRICULUM CONNECTIONS: This residency can by used by English, History, or Visual Arts classes.

SPACE AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: Large classroom with tables or desks. Sinks nearby. Slide projector and screen. CD player optional.

PROGRAM STATUS: Complete, practiced at Crabapple Middle School in November 2003.

SESSIONS: Slides 20 minutes for each culture. Hands on work throughout a period of several weeks to complete reproductions of (8) paintings to be permanently attached to school walls. Students learn transfer procedures, color theory, depth perception, perspective, light and shadow, brush maintenance, and valuable observational skills. $300/day
